USBPre Driver Download
IMPORTANT NOTICE: The USBPre does not operate in 64-bit operating systems. This includes Windows XP-64, Windows Vista-64, Windows 7-64, and any release of Mac OS X 10.5 ("Leopard") or later.
The software driver files below are the most current software for the USBPre. Previous versions of driver files are also posted. Carefully follow the directions below to download and install the software for USBPre for both Windows and Macintosh platforms.
Windows
Follow the steps below to download and install the latest USBPre software drivers for Windows.
- Click on the link to download the installer file. Select "Save file to disk". Select a path that you will remember.
- Once downloaded, double-click on the zip archive to extract the installer folder.
- Exit any open applications and disconnect any USBPre hardware connected to the computer.
- Run the file
setup.exelocated in the installer folder. - If the installer detects an older version of the USBPre software it will prompt you to remove the old software. You will need to run setup.exe again to perform the installation.
Installation Instructions for WDM Drivers in Windows XP/2000
- Carefully read the licenses agreement.
- Select WDM Installation.
- A dialog box stating, "Please plug in a USBPre" appears. Connect a USBPre to the computer and select "OK".
- A dialog box stating, "The software you are installing has not passed Windows Logo Testing..." appears. Select "Continue Anyway".
- A dialog box stating, "The device driver for the USBPre will now be upgraded..." appears. Select "OK".
- A dialog box stating, "The software you are installing for this hardware USBPre has not passed Windows Logo Testing..." appears. Select "Continue Anyway".
- Restart the computer.
- The installation is now complete.
Installation Instructions for ASIO Drivers in Windows XP/2000
- Step through licenses agreement.
- Select ASIO Installation.
- "The software you are installing has not passed Windows Logo Testing..." dialog box appears. Select "Continue Anyway".
- "InstallShield Wizard Completed" dialog box appears. Select "Finish".
- Plug in the USBPre.
- "The device driver for the USBPre will now be upgraded..." dialog box appears. Select "OK".
- "The software you are installing for this hardware USBPre 2.8.12 has not passed Windows Logo Testing..." dialog box appears. Select "Continue Anyway".
- "Welcome to the Found New Hardware Wizard..." dialog box appears. Select "No, not this time". Then choose "Install the software automatically(Recommended)".
- Select "Next".
- "Please select the best match for your hardware from the list below..." dialog box appears. Select "AudioDevice on USB Bus 2.8.12.0 c:\windows\inf\oem26.inf". Select "Next"
- "The software you are installing for this hardware...has not passed Windows Logo testing" dialog box appears. Select "Continue Anyway".
- Restart the computer.
- You're done!

Windows 2000, XP, Vista, and 7 (32 Bit Only)

Macintosh
Computers that use a 64 bit processor and Mac OS X 10.5 ("Leopard") or later will automatically boot into 64 bit mode. None of the following 32 bit drivers will operate properly in this mode. See: Macs that use the 64-bit kernel at Apple's website.
Version 5
The Macintosh version 5 USBPre driver operates on PowerPC and Intel-based Macintosh computers running OS 10.4 and higher. This download does not include the USBPre Control Panel application, which is not necessary for operation of the USBPre.
When using and installing this driver with versions of Mac OS X 10.5 ("Leopard") or later, the operating system must be booted into 32 bit mode. See Starting up with the 32-bit or 64-bit kernel at Apple's website for directions on how to boot these operating systems into 32 mode. This is required for installation of this driver and usage of the USBPre.
Known issues:
- Changes made by Apple in OS X 10.6.5 made this driver inoperable in that version. Versions of OS X before and after 10.6.5 do not have this issue.
- The OS X Audio MIDI control Panel utility must be set to the same sampling rate as the audio application.
- No help file is included with this distribution.
- Administrator rights and a restart are required following installation.
32 Bit: Download Macintosh version 5 USBPre driver (PowerPC/Intel, 10.4+) (190 KB)
Version 4 (Beta CoreAudio)
The Macintosh version 4 USBPre driver is a Sound Devices released beta CoreAudio driver that operates on PowerPC based Macintosh computers running OS 10.3 and up. They are posted as zip archive, which will extract to an installer volume on the desktop. This driver is for Mac OS 10.3 and higher only. Do not use with OS 10.2 or lower. This driver will not operate on Intel-based computers (This includes the MacBook family).
When using and installing this driver with versions of Mac OS X 10.5 ("Leopard") or later, the operating system must be booted into 32 bit mode. See Starting up with the 32-bit or 64-bit kernel at Apple's website for directions on how to boot these operating systems into 32 mode. This is required for installation of this driver and usage of the USBPre.

Version 3
The Macintosh version 3 USBPre driver is a Sound Devices released CoreAudio driver that operates on PowerPC and Intel-based Apple Macintosh computers. It is posted as an archive file, which will extract to an installer volume on the desktop. This driver is for Mac OS 10.2 and 10.3 only. Do not use with OS 10.1 or lower.

Version 2
The Macintosh version 2 USBPre driver is a Sound Devices released driver that operates on Macintosh computers running OS 9.x. It is posted in MacBinary format.

- Version 2.0 includes ASIO drivers for the USBPre.
