exFAT Support in Windows XP

PIX 260i firmware revision 1.02 and later formats attached drives as exFAT volumes. exFAT has many advantages and is well supported in modern operating systems, including Windows 7, Windows 8 and Mac OS. Sound Devices is evaluating exFAT for other products, including future firmware revisions of the PIX 220i and PIX 240i.

However, support for exFAT volumes in Windows XP requires a separate exFAT file system driver provided for free by Microsoft.

The Issue:
Windows XP does not support exFAT volume formatting without installing an exFAT driver. Support for exFAT was first introduced with Windows Vista SP1 and is included with Windows 7 and Windows 8.

The Solution:
Add support for exFAT in Windows XP by installing an update available directly from Microsoft here:

exFAT driver for Windows XP (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/955704)

Note that there are different versions of this driver, depending on whether the XP system is 32-bit or 64-bit.
