7-Series Folder Options in Firmware 2.09 and Later
Q: I updated my 7-Series recorder to the most recent version of firmware from version 2.03. My recorder no longer places recorded files in a folder. All of my files that have been recorded since the update are placed in the root directory of the drive. What happened to folders? Can I still setup a daily and scene folders?
A: The folder options have been greatly expanded with the introduction of firmware revision 2.09. File folder action is controlled in the Setup Menu under the selection File: Folder Options. Folder choices include Top-Level, Mid-Level, and Bottom Level folders.
Top-Level Folder (Project)
Resides at root-level and can be set with a user-selected name. The Top-Level folder is typically used as a master project folder to contain all files associated with a specific project. The top folder can also be ignored by selecting <None> from the Setup Menu. If the Top-Level folder is not used then the next lower-level folder will reside at the drive’s root. If the Top-Level folder is active then the Mid-Level and Bottom-Level folders will be its sub-folders.
Mid-Level Folder (Daily)
Used as either a Daily folder, a folder with a user-selected name, or not active. When a Top-Level folder is in use, the Mid-Level folder becomes a sub-folder of the Top-Level folder. If no Top-Level folder is used the Mid-Level folder sits at the drive’s root. If set to <Daily> a new folder will be created each calendar day. When recording past midnight the recorder will prompt to make to a new daily folder.
Bottom-Level Folder (Scene)
Used as a Scene folder with its name set from the from Rec: Scene Name/Number Setup Menu selection. If no or Top-Level or Mid-Level folder is in use, the Bottom-Level folder will be generated at drive’s root. If the Mid-Level and/or Top-Level are in use the Bottom-Level folder will be a sub-folder of them.
Example: If a Daily Folder is desired, set the Top-Level to <None>, the Mid-Level folder to <Daily>, and the Bottom-Level to <None>. This will generate a Daily Folder in the root directory with it’s files directly inside the folder.
