Methods and Limitations for Linking 7-Series Recorders

Multiple 7-Series recorders can be linked together so that recording can be started for all units from the Master recorder (see User Guide: “Multi-Unit Linking Via C. Link”). Files created on linked boxes are sample-accurate recordings, where the sample rate of all linked boxes follows that of the Master recorder. Linking is reliable for up to three recorders. If more than three recorders need to be linked, route WORD CLOCK OUT from the Master and first Slave to recorders four and five, respectively. The maximum number of linked recorders is five, and is independent of sampling rate.

If more than three recorders are linked without routing WORD CLOCK, jitter can build up and files on downstream slaves may experience recording drop outs.

Playback Limitations

While units can be linked for recording applications, there is no link function during playback. 7-Series recorders will play independently, whether they are linked via C. Link or not.
