SOUNDDEV Folder in 7-Series Storage Volumes
Storage volumes formatted by 7-Series recorders generate three folders in the volume’s root. These folders are named FALSETAKES, TRASH, and SOUNDDEV. The FALSETAKES and TRASH folders can be viewed and emptied from the 7-Series recorder. The SOUNDDEV folder is hidden and cannot be accessed from the 7-Series recorder; it is only visible when the storage medium is mounted to a computer. The SOUNDDEV folder is used for storage of important “housekeeping” information used by the 7-Series, including user-defined settings and lists. This information is saved in the SOUNDDEV folder on the primary storage volume of the 7-Series. CompactFlash is the primary volume for the 702 and 702T. The internal hard drive is the primary volume for the 722 and 744T. Do not alter information in the SOUNDDEV folder. Altering files can cause unpredictable behavior.

SOUNDDEV Folder and Sound Files
In firmware versions earlier than 2.09 the SOUNDDEV folder was viewable from the 7-Series recorder File Viewer. When “no folders” was selected as the folder behavior in these earlier versions of firmware, sound files were written to the SOUNDDEV folder. With the introduction of 2.09 and its additional file management features, the SOUNDDEV folder no longer was used to store sound files. It became the storage location for internal bookkeeping files. In files generated without a specified folder selected in firmware 2.09 and later, sound files will be saved to the volume root. Any sound files previously written to the SOUNDDEV folder must be moved in order to be viewed by 7-Series recorders running firmware 2.09+. To move files the 7-Series recorder must be mounted to a computer via FireWire.
