The high-resolution 7-Series family of digital audio recorders shatter the size, performance, and feature-set paradigms of previous generations of audio recorders. They are the next generation - replacing digital and analog tape-based portable recorders with far more powerful file-based digital recording. The two-track (702, 702T, 722), four-track (744T), and eight-track (788T) units record and play audio files with either 16 or 24-bit depth at all professional sampling rates, up to 192 kHz (up to 96 kHz on the 788T). Multiple storage mediums, analog/digital I/O, and high-speed computer connectivity make all 7-Series recorders stand out as world-class products.
Superb Microphone Preamplifiers
Digital audio is only as good as the analog that goes into it. The 7-Series recorders use Sound Devices custom-designed, high-resolution analog microphone preamplifiers. Designed specifically for the high-bandwidth, high bit-rate application in the 7-Series recorders, these preamps set a new standard for linearity, distortion performance, and low-noise gain. These preamps feed analog-to-digital circuits that take advantage of the wide dynamic range analog front end.
Now, only your microphone's resolving power limits your recording quality.
7-Series recorders are controlled by a fast and intuitive user interface. The easy to access buttons, informative LCD displays, LED meters, and LED indicators speed operation. All controls can be access on the front panel of the unit. Because recording engineers don't need to learn a new way to work, the 7-Series tape recorder paradigm makes certain that you don't get distracted in run-and-gun situations. The learning curve is short. For more control in fixed cart-based productions an external USB (788T only) or PS2 compliant keyboard can be used to control the recorder with the CL-1 Keyboard and Remote Control Interface.
With documentary, ENG, and feature film recording engineers in mind, we kept the recorders as small and lightweight as practical without compromising usability. No other audio recorders approach their size/performance ratio. The 788T can easily fit into a standard production audio carry case such as the CS-5, and weighs less than four pounds. All other 7-Series recorders weigh less than 3 pounds and easily fit in an accessory pouch. With a 7-Series recorder, take your recorder to every job, big or small.
The 7-Series recorders write to industry-standard WAV files (with Broadcast Wave and iXML metadata). Audio files are recorded to Compact Flash cards on all recorders and to internal hard drive on the drive-equipped 722, 744T, and 788T.
Sound Devices Family
While the 7-Series recorders are very capable tools alone, they excel when used in conjunction with Sound Devices 552 and 302 audio mixers. Using an external mixer extends the flexibility of the recorder and gives the next level of audio I/O and control.
