Wingman Password Protection

Prevent unauthorized wireless control of your 633 by requiring a password to be entered in the Wingman iOS app.

Sound Devices 633 firmware - (v4.51) provides a firmware update for the 633 field production mixer, which includes support for Wingman Password and other performance enhancements.

It is highly recommended that users update to the latest version of firmware available as soon as possible.

Download the available 633 user guide. It is up-to-date with all relevant features and functionality changes provided in the latest released versions of firmware.

NOTE: Updating the 633 to v4.51 requires the Wingman app to be v2.00. It is important that, before launching Wingman, the 6-Series mixer is running v4.51 and the Wingman app on the iOS device is updated to v2.00. Click HERE to get v2.00 from the Apple App Store.

Last update April 20, 2017

Updates introduced in 4.51 include:

New

  • Support for Wingman app v2.00 which includes:
    • Optional password-protected control of the 633
    • Landscape orientation for iPad
    • Various other fixes and improvements
  • Added Wingman Password menu (in the 633 System menu) for setting a password that will then have to be entered in Wingman to gain control of the 633.

Fixed

  • Media slow errors due to SD/CF card overfill.
  • Rare event where white noise would appear on outputs and headphones when MixAssist was enabled.

Known Issues

The list below are the published known issues for the latest 633 Firmware.

  • Auto-Mute timecode modes output timecode for a few seconds after booting up from a full shutdown.
  • Sound Devices has worked directly with Delkin to identify an intermittent Media I/O issue with newer Delkin CF 500x and CF 700x cards. Delkin has confirmed that a recent change to these two cards is most likely responsible for the errors. Cards containing KZ in the serial number are susceptible to this issue and should not be used. Cards containing VB in the serial number will function correctly and are approved. Deklin CF 1000x and 1050x cards do not experience this issue and may continue to be used. • Original release

Please read and follow the steps below carefully. You may want to print them before upgrading firmware.

Sound Devices recommends backing up any existing audio data that may reside on the recorder. While no data on the storage is changed during the update process, it is best practice to backup the unit. In addition, it is highly recommended to save the current device settings since a firmware update can result in settings changing to factory default.

Prepare to Update

  1. Download the 633 firmware file 633_4.51.zip using the link below.
From the zip archive, extract the file within named 633_4.51.prg file. Copy this .prg file to the root level of an approved SD or CF memory card. Do not place the file in any folder. Do not place the 633_4.51.zip file on the SD or CF card. The card must be formatted in the 633.
  2. Apply Update to 633.
  3. Power the 633 from external DC. Do not perform the update with low batteries or unstable power sources.
  4. Power down the 633 if it is already powered up.
  5. Insert the SD or CF card with the .prg file.
  6. Power on the 633.
  7. Navigate to Setup Menu option SYSTEM > Update Firmware and follow the on-screen instructions.
  8. When the update is complete the 633 will power cycle itself. The version number 4.51 will be displayed briefly on the splash screen while booting up. A message box appears "Firmware updated successfully Version:4.51". Press "OK". Please note any changes or additions to the Setup Menu (if applicable). Consult the 633 User Guide and Technical Information for details.
