Please read and follow the steps below carefully. You may want to print them before upgrading firmware.

Updating Core

  1. Observe current version of firmware installed on the unit. The installed firmware version is displayed upon power up in the LCD display.
  2. Visit www.sounddevices.com to find the latest firmware for the unit.
NOTE: There are TWO sections of the unit that can be updated; the unit’s main core (as described in this procedure) and the Dante interface (See "Updating Dante Interface" below.). These two sections will have their own downloadable files and will require different methods of updating.
  3. Download the required files, which come in a zipped file called MD-4 MCU v.06.zip.
  4. Unzip the MD-4 MCU v.06 file and transfer the MD4.bin file to the root folder of a USB flash drive formatted to the FAT32 file system.
  5. With the MD-4’s power removed, insert the USB flash drive containing the MD4.bin file in the MD-4’s rear panel USB A port.
  6. Apply power to the MD-4 and allow it to fully boot.
  7. Remove power from the MD-4, remove USB flash drive and reapply power. While booting, observe the LCD display for confirmation of the updated firmware version.

Updating Dante Interface

  1. Using Dante Controller running on a Mac or PC (found here: www.audinate.com), connect the MD-4 and computer to a Dante network and verify the current Dante version installed on the MD-4. If the Dante version is not current with the version listed in step 2 above, extract the current MD4v#r#.dnt file from the downloaded zipped file.
  2. Using Dante Firmware Updater (found here: www.audinate.com), connect to the MD-4 and update the Dante firmware with the “MD4vv#r#.dnt” file that was downloaded in step 4 above.
  3. Reboot the MD-4.
  4. Using Dante Controller, verify the current Dante version, confirming that the the new firmware is installed and indicated.

Congratulations! You've just updated both the core and Dante interface of your MD-4!
