The 788T's drives are formatted with the FAT32 file system, which is limited to a maximum possible file size of 4 GB minus 1 byte. To work with the limitations of FAT32, the 788T "splits" the files into 4 GB (or smaller) files when continuously recording, based on the menu selected in the recorder.

Problem:

When the 788T's "File: Max Size" is set in its menu to "4 GBytes" the file size exceeds the 4 GB limitation and results in a brief loss of audio between file splits. This is typically less than five seconds.

Solution:

Sound Devices recommends that users set the 788T's file size limit to "4GB CF (3.6 GB)". This setting allows the files to split at 3.6 GB, without a loss of audio. When matched up in an editing environment, these multiple files will be sample-continuous.

Note - This bug was fixed in Firmware Rev. 3.00
