Sound Devices Brings Group Powering and Recording to the A20-Mini with Version 2.00

REEDSBURG, WIS., OCTOBER 11, 2021 – Sound Devices is proud to announce that firmware version 2.00 for the A20-Mini and its companion application A20-Remote introduces shared controls for A20-Mini transmitter groups. Now, all transmitters can be powered up and down simultaneously or made to start and stop recording with a single tap from a smartphone or tablet. In A20-Remote, sound professionals can create custom groups with selected transmitters or use an automatically-created all-transmitter group. The high-efficiency Bluetooth® 5.2 connection provides excellent remote control range and near-instant, simultaneous control.

“We’re very excited to bring group control to A20-Remote and the A20-Mini ecosystem,” said Gary Trenda, RF Applications Engineer at Sound Devices. “We gave sound professionals quick access to the most commonly used functions. The ability to power all transmitters on and off simultaneously will dramatically increase battery life, and being able to start and stop recording on multiple transmitters will streamline workflows during production.”

Version 2.00 also offers a new “Resume record state upon powering on” option which can accelerate set-up, especially when combined with the available Auto Power On options for lavalier microphone connections and the PowerStation-8M accessory. Additionally, a new “LEDs” menu available in v2.00 allows for the status LEDs on the Mini to be turned off. This is ideal for productions with thin costuming where the light could potentially show.

The A20-Mini transmitter was released less than three months ago and is already being used on several major motion pictures. The company’s first miniature transmitter incorporates state-of-the-art features such as full remote control via the A20-Remote app, GainForward Architecture, internal 32-bit float recording, a worldwide tuning range of 470 MHz – 694 MHz, and more. The A20-Mini is fully compatible with Sound Devices’ existing A10 Digital Wireless System. A20-Remote is available for iOS, iPadOS, and Android phones and tablets. A20-Remote  offers control of RF transmit frequency, RF power, the ability to turn the A20-Mini on and off, start and stop recording, mute the microphone, format the media, and more.
