Powering Our Future with Clean Energy
Audiotonix helped us with the installation of a 130kW solar panel array on the roof of our Reedsburg manufacturing plant. This system now provides a significant portion of our facility’s energy needs, reducing our reliance on fossil fuels and cutting our carbon footprint. We also installed electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at our Reedsburg location to support employees and visitors who drive electric cars. These chargers are powered in part by our solar infrastructure, creating a clean energy loop that reflects our commitment to sustainability.
Sustainable Operations
- Waste Reduction: We’ve expanded our recycling program to include e-waste, packaging foam, and obsolete components. All batteries and used PCBA assemblies are collected in our Reedsburg facility are sent out for responsible recycling.
- Eco-Friendly Packaging: In this last year, we transitioned all of our product packaging to paper-based recycled material, and we’ve eliminated all plastics from our shipping materials.

• Product Lifecycle Focus: Our gear is built to last. Far from disposable consumer gear, it is the norm for our gear to be in full operation for over 10 years, and 20 years is not out of the question. We continue to prioritize repairability, and regular firmware updates to extend product life and reduce waste.
• Sound Devices’ products are by their very nature very lower power draw since most of them are battery powered for remote operation – they are designed from the ground up to switch off unused portions of the circuitry when not in use. This means that the products are inherently energy efficient compared to products which plug into the wall which can constantly consume power.
Environmental Stewardship
Supporting the Creative Community
We believe in amplifying voices—especially those that are underrepresented. We’ve partnered with creators and organizations that reflect our values:
- Behind the Boom: We featured Juan Ortiz and his collective in a widely shared article that celebrated diversity in sound engineering.
- We continue to support and grow our brand ambassadors’ social media presence and their expertise with Sound Devices gear. La’Ron Cooper, Anna Khomrova, and Kyle Hupman remain outstanding examples of Sound Devices professionals.

Supporting the Local Community
We maintain close ties with the local Reedsburg community. Whether local sports teams or volunteering at the Reedsburg Area High School “Steak Challenge”, we are from the local community and strive to be supportive.
Governance and Ethics
Sound Devices is governed by a leadership team that values transparency, accountability, and long-term thinking. In 2025:
- Executive Oversight: ESG strategy was reviewed quarterly by the executive team, with input from finance, marketing, and engineering.
- Data Privacy: We updated our data protection protocols to align with evolving global standards, ensuring customer and employee information remains secure.
- Supplier Ethics: We conducted audits of key suppliers to ensure compliance with labor, safety, and environmental standards.
Employee Experience
Our people are the heart of Sound Devices. We invest in their well-being, development, and sense of purpose:
- Internship Program: In 2025, we welcomed four R&D interns of both high school and college age who contributed to firmware testing, UI design, and product validation. This is a long-running program that we are committed to. Some of our very best employees started out in high school in this very program.
- Career Development: Employees are encouraged to cross-train across departments, with many successfully transitioning from technical roles into leadership positions. The company actively supports skill development through hands-on learning, cross-functional collaboration, and access to training resources. Team members are empowered to take initiative, expand their expertise, and grow professionally over time.
- Mental Health Support: We offer confidential counseling, flexible work arrangements, and regular check-ins to ensure our team feels supported.
- Parental Leave Policy: Unlike many US-based companies, we offer up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave because we believe family time matters. Whether you’re welcoming a new baby or adopting, our policy supports all parents—birthing, non-birthing, and adoptive—with paid time off to bond, recover, and adjust. It’s flexible, inclusive, and designed to make sure no one has to choose between their career and their family. That’s not just policy—it’s culture.
- Company get-togethers: Our July company picnic is an example of family-friendly fun that we encourage. This July 3rd will be another one of our get togethers where we celebrate our company anniversary and enjoy games and general camaraderie.
- Team Lunches: Every Friday, the entire Madison office comes together to share lunch. From the executive team to marketing, everyone is welcome. These weekly gatherings have helped foster new friendships and strengthen connections both in and outside of work.
Looking Ahead
- Lifecycle Sustainability: Measuring and reducing the total energy footprint of our products—from manufacturing to end-of-life.
- Inclusive Innovation: Designing tools that empower creators of all backgrounds and abilities.
- Global Collaboration: Strengthening partnerships with distributors, artists, and engineers around the world.
