Engineering Project Manager – Madison, WI

The world’s leading manufacturer of portable audio recording equipment for film and television professionals has a great opportunity for a highly motivated, energetic Engineering Project Manager. Film buffs are welcome! You’ll work in our Madison, WI, office with the engineers behind our high-performance audio gear to deliver the equipment that will record audio on your next favorite movie or TV show. We’re looking for someone who has an eye for organization, can keep others on track, and is focused on getting projects over the finish line – on time and within scope.
Sound Devices products have been used in high-profile movies — such as Star Wars: The Force Awakens, La La Land, and The Revenant –, beloved episodic series — including Dr. Who, Game of Thrones, Squid Game — sports and news broadcasts, academic research, podcasting, streaming and recording music, and beyond!
Responsibilities:
- Work with all aspects of the product development pipeline (Engineering, Purchasing, Production, Test, etc.) to identify project phases and tasks, establish and maintain schedules, and make the process from product conception to production go as seamlessly as possible.
- Establish when new products and updates will be ready for release and communicate deadlines to the rest of the organization.
- Create primary schedules for all new product developments, encompassing:
- Electronic design
- Software (embedded firmware, desktop, mobile and web applications)
- Mechanical design
- PCB Layout
- Compliance testing
- Procurement
- Production
- Testing
- Monitor progress of projects.
- Identify strategies to ensure schedules are met, and opportunities to shorten them.
- Give reports to the VP of Engineering, CEO, CFO, and others, as needed.
- Maintain complete Bills of Materials for products.
- Keep track of development and manufacturing costs for products.
- Schedule product introductions and coordinate sample runs.
- Establish priorities based on risk and lead time assessments.
- Maintain totals of all R&D activities per engineer for tax purposes.
Requirements:
- 4 year Engineering degree preferred, but not a requirement.
- Experience in firmware development, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or manufacturing engineering a plus
- Must be highly organized and detail-oriented with a strong desire to “get things done.”
- Strong Multi-Tasking skills.
- 3 years of experience in Engineering product management
- Familiarity with Agile and other product development methodologies
- Good understanding of MRP/ERP systems
