Engineering Project Manager – Madison, WI

Sound Devices is looking for an experienced Engineering Project Manager to join our team. Our audio and RF products are used by demanding professionals in Hollywood, on tour, in the Olympics, in the wild and in other mission critical applications. This role is responsible for coordinating hardware and mechanical development efforts from prototype through early production and ensuring schedules and target costs are met.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with management to establish and maintain new product prototype and production schedules.
  • Prepare, maintain, and track target production costs; participate in engineering budget planning and work with Finance on significant deviations.
  • Prepare and maintain project schedules, dependencies, and deliverables using appropriate project management tools.
  • Lead meetings and task-manage hardware and mechanical team members to meet schedules and cost targets, including setting priorities.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate technical, schedule, supply-chain, and cost risks; troubleshoot issues that could delay schedules or impact costs.
  • Work closely with Procurement to approve component ordering and resolve delivery issues.
  • Escalate significant schedule or cost risks to the VP of Research & Development and CEO when they cannot be resolved within the product team.
  • Coordinate all mechanical and hardware prototype builds through first and/or second production based on pre-set schedules.
  • Maintain new product BOMs, build plans, and jobs in the ERP system through first production.
  • Schedule and coordinate engineering resources for ECNs and other cross-functional engineering support needs.
  • Coordinate engineering support for sales, marketing, validation, certification, and quality-readiness activities associated with product launch.
  • Work with Production to support and execute new product launches.
  • Other duties as required

Requirements:

  • B.S. degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or related discipline).
  • 5+ years of experience managing hardware and/or mechanical engineering projects.
  • Strong understanding of new product development from prototype through production.
  • Experience with ERP systems, BOM management, and ECN management
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
