RF Hardware Design and Development Engineer – Madison, WI or Rickmansworth, England

Sound Devices is looking for a motivated RF Hardware Engineer to join our team. Our audio and RF products are used by discerning professionals working everywhere from television and touring shows, to on-location film sets, live sporting events, and other applications that rely on precise technology. The hardware you will work on will be important, interesting, and technically challenging to meet the needs of the evolving sound industry. Sound Devices offers a highly collaborative environment where you will work among other skilled engineers who have produced many exciting and groundbreaking products and are eager to teach and to learn.

In this role, you will be responsible for RF circuit design, simulation, analysis, and verification testing of new transmitter and receiver products. You will be very hands on to design, bring up and test prototype hardware and new products, and to assist in releasing products to production. In addition to having excellent knowledge of RF theory and strong RF parts knowledge, you also need to possess excellent soldering and “bench skills” and native fluency with all sorts of test equipment, such as VNAs, Oscilloscopes, Generators, etc.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering, or related field of study.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in similar role.
  • Strong experience in analogue RF circuit design, including filters, matching networks, LNAs, power amplifiers, synthesizers, and fast ADCs.
  • Expertise with standard RF measurement equipment, such as spectrum and network analyzers.
  • Proficiency in the use of RF simulation and analysis tools.
  • Working knowledge of industry EMC/radio standards and regulations, such as FCC and ETSI.
  • Excellent SMT soldering and rework skills required. Please do not apply unless you are already well versed in soldering.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with people from different functional areas of the company – for example, Mechanical Design, PCB Layout, and Production Test.
  • Ability to test, debug, and modify prototype and pre-production hardware.
  • Strong work ethic and curiosity are requirements.
  • Knowledge of test fixture design, production test programs.
