Sound Devices debuts several new members of the popular MixPre Series, including the MixPre-10T audio recorder with timecode and the brand new Ambisonics plugin to help VR professionals record and monitor high-quality 360 spatial audio for video.

AMSTERDAM, SEPTEMBER 14, 2018 — Sound Devices debuts several new members of the popular MixPre Series, including the MixPre-10T audio recorder with timecode and the brand new Ambisonics plugin to help VR professionals record and monitor high-quality 360 spatial audio for video.

Celebrating 20 years of excellence, Sound Devices—the audio manufacturer whose products are trusted worldwide for award-winning productions including Game of Thrones and La La Land—will be exhibiting at IBC 2018 (Stand 8.A32). Sound Devices will be showcasing the highly portable, extremely versatile MixPre Series of audio recorders, mixers, and USB audio interfaces. The multi-faceted series offers three Classic models and three M models.

All models include our premium Kashmir™ mic preamps that truly define the MixPre Series, delivering the audiophile experience Sound Devices users demand. Other features include cue markers, remixing of recorded tracks, and wireless control via Bluetooth. The Classic models (MixPre-3, MixPre-6, and MixPre-10T), which include a timecode reader and/or generator plus record triggering from DSLRs, are ideal for those wanting the best for field recording, live performance audio, sound for video, podcasts, and sound FX.

In collaboration with Sennheiser’s VR partnership program, at IBC, Sound Devices will showcase the MixPre-6 & MixPre-10T with their new Ambisonics Plugin. Paired with Sennheiser’s AMBEO VR mic, this combination will offer the full spatial audio experience for virtual reality (VR) video. As well as recording and monitoring A and B-format Ambisonics, the MixPre-6 and MixPre-10T are the first portable recorders to exclusively feature onboard Ambisonics to binaural decoding. This allows VR creators to assess and make creative decisions about spatial audio content at time of capture, without needing a post-production workstation.

“Sound Devices recorders have been used for Ambisonics field recording for many years, so it was a natural progression for us to bring our MixPre recorders into the new world of VR 360 recording,” said Matt Anderson, CEO of Sound Devices. “We are happy to partner with Sennheiser to provide a high-quality VR recording and monitoring option for our MixPre-6 and MixPre-10T customers.”

Support for the free Ambisonics plugin is a key feature of the MixPre version 3.00 Firmware, a free update being demoed at the show. The highly anticipated version 3.00 also enhances the user experience with all MixPre recorders by supporting full integration with four third-party USB fader controllers: Korg’s nanoKONTROL Studio and nanoKONTROL2, Novation’s Launch Control XL, and Akai’s MIDImix. The new firmware also introduces wireless remote transport control and metering of MixPre M models from iOS or Android mobile devices via the Wingman app.

The MixPre M models (MixPre-3M, MixPre-6M, and MixPre-10M) were designed specifically for those who want to create multitrack songs without a computer anytime, anywhere inspiration strikes. They offer key features musicians love like overdub, punch in/out, reverb and vocal air effects, metronome, and more. And for those who want the best of both worlds, the Sound Devices Musician Plugin is available for all Classic models, enabling the full suite of musician-centric features.

From field recording to sound FX, podcasting to music creation, Sound Devices has the professional-grade gear needed to meet the fast-paced demands in audio industries that require absolute quality, versatility, portability, and durability.
