Sound Devices Announces Firmware Version 4.00 for 8-Series, Featuring Support for Newly-Released CL-16

REEDSBURG, WIS., APRIL 27, 2020 – Sound Devices announces firmware version 4.00 for the 8-Series Portable Mixer-Recorders, consisting of the Scorpio, 888, and 833. Firmware version 4.00 includes support for the just-released CL-16 Linear Fader Control Surface, bus soloing, new options for custom output and SD card naming, and more.

At popular request from sound professionals, Sound Devices designed a bespoke control surface for the 888 and Scorpio that combines the simplicity of traditional analog consoles with the power and flexibility of digital consoles. The CL-16 features dedicated, non-banking controls for channels 1-16, 16 ultra-smooth Penny & Giles faders, multiple soft-touch buttons for key functions, and a glorious panoramic LCD. The unit is 16.3” wide, fits easily in a cart, and operates from 12 V DC. Firmware version 4.00 is required on the 888 and Scorpio to connect to the CL-16. The highly-anticipated control surface shipped to dealers worldwide on April 24th.

Additionally, with v4.00, sound professionals can customize the names of outputs and SD cards. Buses are now able to be soloed during playback for quick access to monitoring mixes.

Other changes include a “Require Shift for Mute” option for third-party controllers, channel bus sends available in bus screens, and various stability enhancements.
